ในโอกาสของการจัดพิมพ์หนังสือ Artist-to-Artist: Independent Art Festivals in Chiang Mai 1992–98 ขอเชิญร่วมฟังการเสวนาโดยบรรณาธิการหนังสือและผู้มีส่วนร่วมในการเขียนจะทำให้เห็นถึงประวัติศาสตร์ที่หลายหลายของเทศกาลเชียงใหม่จัดวางสังคม กิจกรรมอันเกิดขึ้นบนพื้นฐานของมิตรภาพ และการประกอบขึ้นจากความคิดริเริ่มของศิลปินและพื้นที่อิสระในท้องถิ่น ชุดของเทศกาลเป็นที่รู้จักในนาม เชียงใหม่จัดวางสังคม จัดแสดงศิลปะร่วมสมัยของชีวิตประจำวันในเมือง จากวัดและสุสาน สู่ห้องสมุด ข่วงกลางเวียง และแม้กระทั่งคลินิกทันตกรรม ศิลปินผู้นำการแทรกแซงเหล่านี้ แสดงให้เห็นการใช้ทุนตนเอง การปกครองตนเองแบบอิสระ สู่วัฒนธรรมเทศกาลทุกสองปีที่ขยายตัวขึ้นเป็นลำดับในอุษาคเนย์ ในขณะที่เป็นการประกาศความเป็นร่วมสมัยซึ่งมีมิติที่กว้างกว่าเสียอีกด้วย เนื่องจากเป็นสิ่งพิมพ์แรกที่มีเนื้อหาครอบคลุมโครงการนี้ หนังสือจึงได้นำเสนอเอกสารอ้างอิงทางภาพถ่ายอย่างครอบคลุม ร่วมไปกับการบรรยายด้วยเสียงอันหลากหลายโดยผู้ร่วมเทศกาล โดยผู้มีส่วนร่วมในการเขียน เริ่มจาก เดวิด เทห์, แพทริก ดี.ฟลอเรส, เม อาดาดล อิงคะวณิช, โรซาลินด์ ซี. มอร์ริส, เดวิด มอร์ริส และ ศิลปินผู้มีส่วนร่วม ทั้งนี้หนังสือถูกตีพิมพ์โดย Afterall Books ในการร่วมมือกับ Asia Art Archive และ the Centre for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. กิจกรรมครั้งนี้จะจัดขึ้นที่วัดอุโมงค์ สวนพุทธธรรม หนึ่งในสถานที่หลักของเทศกาล และเป็นสัญลักษณ์บ่งชี้ที่สำคัญของชุมชนศิลปะเชียงใหม่ตั้งแต่ยุค 90

 

กิจกรรมนี้เปิดให้ผู้สนใจทั่วไปเข้าร่วมได้โดยไม่มีค่าใช้จ่าย การพูดส่วนใหญ่เป็นภาษาอังกฤษโดยมีล่ามแปลเป็นภาษาไทยตลอดงาน ในช่วงถามตอบจะมีการแปลระหว่างภาษาไทยและอังกฤษ

【 Histories of Chiang Mai Social Installation 】

With Uthit Atimana, David Teh, David Morris, and a performance by Narumol Thammaprusa and a group of children

At Wat Umong Phutthatham, T. Suthep, Chiang Mai - in front of the caves’ entrances (or in a Dharma Puzzle Hall if rains)

 

On the occasion of the publication of Artist-to-Artist: Independent Art Festivals in Chiang Mai 1992–98, this discussion with the book's editors and contributors will address the multiple histories of Chiang Mai Social Installation. Founded on an ethos of friendship, and emerging amidst a regional constellation of artists’ initiatives and independent spaces, the series of festivals known as Chiang Mai Social Installation staged contemporary art within everyday city life. From temples and cemeteries to libraries, the town square, and even a dental clinic, these artist-led interventions presented a self-funded, anarchic alternative to Southeast Asia’s subsequently expanding biennial culture while also announcing a contemporaneity with even wider dimensions. The first comprehensive publication on these projects, the book presents extensive photographic documentation alongside a multivocal account by its participants, with contributions from David Teh, Patrick D. Flores, May Adadol Ingawanij, Rosalind C. Morris, David Morris and participating artists, and is published by Afterall Books in association with Asia Art Archive and the Centre for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. This event will be held at Wat Umong Suan Phutthatham, one of the festivals' key venues and an important landmark for the Chiang Mai art community since the 1990s.

 

All are welcome, no admission charge. The talk will be mainly in English and interpreted into Thai. The Q&A session will alternate between the English and Thai languages.
