Description

messages from nowhere to nowhere exhibition is meant to present latest work by Piyarat. The project was initiated and executed in Pattaya city and the surrounding area near Banglamung district, Chonburi province where Piyarat spent 3 months artist in residency program at Thaillywood Artist Residency. Piyarat’s work often engaged with contemporaryissues, especially in Sociology and Anthropology by utilize the ideas, theories or concepts as a framework in her art practice. In messages from nowhere to nowhere exhibition, Piyarat work in the field of globalization, and employ the idea of ‘translocality‘ from a book, Modernity at Large: Cultural Dimensions of Globalization by contemporary anthropologist, Arjun Appadurai.

In this exhibition, Piyarat chooses to work on the subject of translocality in the area of Pattaya which is special administrative area, the city comprises with people from various background, ethnic, race etc. Piyarat collects phrases and sentences from people reside in the area and recreate the meaning out of it. The exhibition comprises with work ranging from video, neon and documentary photograph.
