กิจกรรมนี้จัดขึ้นโดยความร่วมมือระหว่าง CAC - Chiang Mai Art Conversation และ ชุมชนนักกิจกรรมภาคเหนือเพื่อสังคมประชาธิปไตย (CAN)

ALPP ‘กระบวนการการมีส่วนร่วมผ่านศิลปะ’ เป็นการเวิร์กช็อปที่เหมาะสำหรับผู้ที่ต้องการเรียนรู้กระบวนการที่ตั้งต้นจากผู้คนผ่านประเด็นทางจริยธรรมและองค์รวม ซึ่งจะช่วยกระตุ้นให้ผู้คน (รวมถึงศิลปิน/ผู้ปฏิบัติการ) แสดงความรู้สึกนึกคิดของตนออกมาอย่างมีอารมณ์ขัน เท่าเทียม และเป็นมิตรกับคนรอบข้าง

กิจกรรมนี้จะแนะนำประวัติศาสตร์โดยย่อของปฏิบัติการศิลปะในบริบทชุมชนแบบต่างๆ ตั้งแต่ 'ศิลปะอาว็อง-การ์ด' ที่แยกตัวออกมาจากวิถีของสภาวะสมัยใหม่ และ ความเคลื่อนไหวของเหล่าศิลปินที่ออกมาทำงานนอกแกลเลอรี่และสตูดิโอ จนกลายมาเป็น 'ศิลปะแบบมีส่วนร่วมสาธารณะ' 'ศิลปะที่พัวพันกับสังคม' และ 'ศิลปะชุมชน' พร้อมด้วยการอภิปรายแง่มุมที่แตกต่างกันระหว่างงานในแนวนี้กับงานที่ต่อยอดจากกระบวนการถกเถียงและการสร้างประชาธิปไตยหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง

หลังจากนั้นจึงเข้าสู่แบบฝึกหัดที่ให้ความสำคัญกับทั้งตัวปฏิบัติการและวิธีการในการทำงานจริงกับผู้คนในบริบทต่างๆ แล้วนำไปสู่การสรุปปิดท้ายกิจกรรมให้เกิดความเข้าใจที่ยืดหยุ่นในเรื่ององค์ประกอบพื้นฐานของ การอภิปราย การมีส่วนร่วม และการแสดงความรู้สึกนึกคิดในพื้นที่การใช้ชีวิตประจำวัน ผ่านการถกเถียงกันในแนวทางของ ‘กระบวนการการมีส่วนร่วมผ่านศิลปะ’ (ALPP)

การแนะแนวสำหรับทุกคนที่สนใจการวิจัยแบบศิลปิน (artistic research ทั้งระดับปริญญาโทและเอก) การวิจัยแบบศิลปินมักจะเป็นการผสมผสานข้ามศาสตร์อยู่แล้ว และยังได้รับการวางโครงสร้างแตกต่างไปจากหลักสูตรปริญญาเอกอื่นๆ ทั้งในด้านการวิจัย กระบวนการ และการประเมินผล เจย์ โคห์ มองว่าการวิจัยแบบศิลปินนั้นมีความครอบคลุมความรู้และประสบการณ์ในเรื่องของอารมณ์ต่างๆ ทั้งแบบเจาะลึกและกว้างๆ ทั่วไป จึงเหมาะสมเป็นอย่างยิ่งสำหรับผู้ที่เน้นงานภาคปฏิบัติ เขาเองนั้นมีประสบการณ์การให้คำแนะนำระหว่างทำงานเป็นผู้ประเมินโครงการศิลปะสาธารณะในฐานะตัวแทนของ Irish Art Council สำหรับโปรแกรมของ CREATE Ireland และ Common Ground ที่ไอร์แลนด์

เกี่ยวกับผู้อบรม

เจย์ โคห์ เป็นศิลปินและภัณฑารักษ์ ชาวสิงคโปร์/เยอรมัน/ไอร์แลนด์ ที่จบการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาเอกทางด้านศิลปะ และเป็นผู้เขียนตำรา ‘กระบวนการการมีส่วนร่วมผ่านศิลปะ’ เขาริเริ่มกิจกรรมศิลปะในที่สาธารณะมาตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2533 และร่วมเป็นครูใน Open Academy ประจำแผนการเรียน international Forum for InterMedia Art (iFIMA) ขณะนี้เขากำลังปฏิบัติการอยู่ในเมืองไทยร่วมกับ 3C project (ทางจักรยานสัญจร มหานครริมน้ำ) เพื่อทำงานในชุมชมชนริมคลองบางมด ที่กรุงเทพฯ และก็ยังเป็นที่ปรึกษาของ MAS Art & Society โครงการผู้เชี่ยวชาญทางด้านการศึกษาชั้นสูงในเรื่องศิลปะกับสังคมของ Zurich University of the Art โดยเป็นผู้เปิดคอร์สในหลายที่นอกทวีปยุโรป

This event is organized by CAC - Chiang Mai Art Conversation, and Northern Activist Community (CAN)

ALPP - Art-Led Participative Processes is a useful module to those who wish to explore people-centred processes with references to holistic and ethical issues. These nurture participants (including the artist/author) to reflect on their subjectivity in a humorous, reciprocal and amiable surroundings.

This module introduces participants through a brief history of artists working in community contexts. It begins with the avant-garde, which emerged out from the modernist trajectory, moving forward into explorations of progressive movements as artists began working outside of studio and gallery spaces, and turning into public participatory, socially engaged and community art practices. The module examines some key differences between works coming out of this trajectory with those that have evolved from the deliberative, democratisation processes after WWII.

The module will inform a praxis that prioritises practice and experiential modes of working with different others and within contexts. This module concludes with establishing a dynamic understanding of the fundamental elements of dialogue, participation and the performances of subjectivity within the spaces of the everyday that Jay Koh will discuss under the concept of ALPP.

Consultation for anyone interested in artistic research (master to doctoral studies in artistic research). Artistic researches are mostly cross/inter-disciplinary in nature and is structured differently as those of the PhD in research, processes and examination. Jay Koh considered artistic researches, that are inclusive of knowledge and experience from the areas of emotion, insight and the everyday, as most suitable for practitioners who prioritise practices. His experience includes research/praxis in mentoring and evaluation acquired during his works in Ireland under a duration program conducted by CREATE Ireland and Common Ground on behalf of the Irish Art Council and as an independent evaluator for public art projects.

This workshop will be in English and translated in Thai by the interpreter, Taviphut Praengern. No admission fee.

About the instructor

Jay Koh (Singapore/Germany/Ireland), DFA, artist-curator and evaluator. He has been initiating public art activities since 1990, is the author of Art-Led Participative Processes (ALPP), co-initiator of the Open Academy (under international Forum for InterMedia Art/ iFIMA) and is presently collaborating with the 3C project in Thung Khru, Bangkok. He is one of the module supervisors of the Master of Advanced Studies in Art & Society, Zurich University of the Art, who conducts courses in multiple sites, mostly outside Europe.
